Have something to share with the Class? Drop a line from the email box at the bottom of each page. We would all like to hear from you!  Here's what we "hear" - latest posting first.

Bob,

Likewise good to hear back from you.

If I'm still around in 2009, and I hope to be, I would be interested in
the 50th reunion.

Thank you very much for putting up the yearbook picture. My copy of the
year book was lost years ago in one of the many moves that I made.

I also was taken back by the photo in the "Way We Were" page of my 6th
grade class at Wisdom Lane School. I didn't know that those photos
existed anymore. All I can say is wow!!

Hi! My name is Art Freud. I taught at LMHS from 1954 to 1957 when I moved to Salk as science chairman. When MacArthur opened in 1961 (?) I moved there and in 1968 I went off to DAHS as an a.p. I finally came back to MacArthur in 1969 and stayed there until I retired in 1984.

I saw a notice about Vic Streit in Newsday. He is going to be 90 years old and also has a big wedding anniversary coming up. Vic was the best administrator I ever worked for (at Salk). I found his phone number on this site and called him. He remembers everybody and everything and it was a pleasure talking to him. All the best to everyone. Art Freud

P.S. Please change my address listing to 169 Village Green Drive, Port Jeff. Station, NY 11776 and my phone number to 631-473-2874. My email is pets01b@aol.com. AF

Hi, Bob,

Just to let you know that Ed and I will not be able to come to this reunion, as we had wanted to.

Ed's cousin is getting married on June 30th. We plan to come in that week for the wedding, then spend the week visiting our friends and family. In August, we're going out to Las Vegas amd California to visit our West Coast friends and family for a week. We cannot possibly come in again for the reunion.

We hope everyone has a great time and look forward to a 50th for our class, hopefully.

Regards to all,

Ed and Judy (Levy) Horowitz

Hi -- any information on Irene Dehler Austin, class of '59? Helene Brooks just e-mailed me that Irene died suddenly in Dec. I called her husband's number in Tuscon-- it's disconnected. Thanks for any help. I am just plain shocked and saddened.

Hi, Guys,

We're published! We must say the years have been good to all of our schoolmates whose pictures appeared in the newletter! What a great looking group we turned out to be! We have decided to go to the reunion. After all, it's not like we have another 50 years ahead to wait for the next one.
Anyone else going from the Class of '59?

Hi Bob,
I have just sent in my check for 06. I must be getting old I forgot to send one last year. (Hey we are getting old) Oh new email (have to stay ahead of the authorities) mlkean@bellsouth.net

Well last year was certainly different for me. I volunteered for the Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina. I spent 3 weeks, in Biloxi, living in a tent. I went there because I had a calling. Not like me at all. In fact most of us there could not explain what made us go other than we had to. It was a life changing experience. I saw the worst of the worst. I was helping people from one end of Mississippi to the other. Pass Christian was the worst. Imagine a nuclear bomb going off and you get the mental picture. One really can't explain the utter devastation. You could look in all directions and see nothing but flatten destroyed homes and businesses. The first weeks after the storm the emergency workers were pulling people out of trees 30-40 feet in the air.

Emotionally I am drained. The small problems I once had that were so important now no longer matter. I made friends that will always be with me, either physically (we've already had a mini reunion) or mentally. People from all walks of life, firemen, hippies, college professors, retired high ranking military, the unemployed, TV directors. You name they were there working 14-16 hours days and not complaining. We did get to have a few beers late at night after work and eat a hamburger. Many times our kitchen ran out of food for us so we had to eat on our own. It's something I would recommend to everyone. I'm still the same person but I appreciate what I have. The people of MS and LA will take years, if ever, to recover.

The crème de le crème was returning to Florida just in time for Hurricane Wilma. We were in the direct line of the storm. No power for 7 days. I had to ride the storm out with my Grandson since both my wife and daughter work for local hospitals and had to work. Outside of that things were pretty normal.

Hey Bob!

It's been a while since we saw each other, plus I haven't been on this new website for ages!! How nice to see the good job you've done with it! I enjoy all the photos and reading all the fun emails from the "kids" of '59!

I won't be attending the reunion this summer in Las Vegas. I swore on my way home from my last trip to Montana (about12 years ago) that I would NEVER fly again! It was a horrific flight, and I'm terrified of flying to begin with. So........I'm sure you're getting together a nice group, though.

I was sorry to hear about Sue's Mom. I lost mine 3 years ago this month, and it's not an easy thing. What's also not easy is reading the "Gone But Not Forgotten" list. It hurts my heart to think of them all.

Does anyone know what Steve Kupicz died from? I had heard many years ago (in the 60s) that he had died. Then, one day when I was in a store in Jericho, there he was standing in front of me, grinning that infamous grin! I just about died of a heart attack! I was shocked to see how he looked. He had been in a terrible accident, and almost died. He had so many scars from stitches. It seemed like I was looking at his reflection in a broken mirror, if you know what I mean.

I ran into Carol Sandstedt in Penney's one day not long ago. She was cashiering and I kept looking and looking at her. I finally asked her if her name was Carol. It was so nice to run into an "oldie"!!

Well, that's about it. Life is hectic, but God is good. We're all alive.

Thanks, Bob. Be well.

Bob,
Hi & how are you doing? It's been a while----I hope all is well with you & yours! Bob & I are fine, thank God! The grandkids are getting big. We saw them all for Christmas. It was great!

The reason for my email is that I heard from Judy Molzon today (Christmas card & letter). She asked that I pass a message along to all of our classmates----Janice Stiles (Ryan) is very sick. She has lung cancer. She asked that we all send her a get-well card. It would make her day.

Thanks, Bob. Take care & be well! Happy New Year!

Bob:

We are doing great. Phyllis Martin Hirsch and her husband, Jerry, and Sandy Witlin and his wife, Terry, all left the area and missed Hurricane Wilma altogether. That was the only one that hit here. Elliot Matis and Ellen were gone, too. Ed and I bought a generator, which we ran twice a day, and stiffed it out. We didn't have much damage - a couple of roof tiles and our patio screen bent a little. It's no fun, but it's better than freezing cold weather and snowstorms. At least we think so.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

Bob,
You are more than welcome. It's such a small price to pay for such a great site. You do a sensational job of maintaining it. Kudos!!!!
By the way, my bride and I recently returned from Washington, DC whereby she was recognized for her 45th anniversary with the
FBI. It was a nice ceremony. The director, Robert Mueller, said she must of been 10 years old when she started. She did look
good. I had a chance to join her on stage and meet him also. He's a nice guy. I gave him a Semper Fi, he is also a former Marine,
and he returned it. He told Carol Jane, my bride, that once a Marine always a Marine. She replied that she knew that living with me
all these years(haha). She has served under every Director since J. Edgar Hoover. Pretty amazing, huh? Our family is very proud of her and her service. She's the best.
Take care my friend.
God bless and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Hello Levittown Memorial High School Alumni,

I was playing with my “Google Earth Explorer” and looking over Long Island when I noticed Levittown. The thought came
to me of “Levittown Memorial High School.” I checked to see if there was a web site and there you are.

I’m one of the missing ’58 graduates, and I thought I’d take a minute to update you.

My name is: Thomas O’Connell
Address: 197 Mohawk Trail
Wayne, NJ 07470
Phone: 973-616-7202
Email: tomoco@verizon.net

Marcia Canton, class of ’59, and I were married. However, we divorced, but not before we had two lovely children; Karen
and Kevin.

Karen is married with three children and living in Oak Ridge, NJ.

Kevin is married with two children and living in Mahwah, NJ. Due to business, Kevin and his family will soon be
transferring to Tampa FL.

Marcia has remarried and is living nearby in NJ. When I see her, I’ll tell her she’s among the class of ‘59 missing.

As for myself, I’ve worked in various engineering positions in a number of companies on Long Island and New Jersey
after graduating from SUATI, Farmingdale in 1960. I’ve participated on many product development teams for both
commercial and military applications. I’m recently retired from Honeywell Corp, my last employer.

I’ve not remarried, and live in a private Lake Community (Pines Lake) in Wayne NJ. Where I can fish, rowboat, swim and
hang out at the beach. Just like I did when I was a teenager, except now I sit with the Senior Citizens. There’s a vibrant
Senior Citizens group here with activities every month and I’m enjoying my retirement. For the past year I’ve been on
some long overdue vacations with my significant other, Christina. In my spare time I catch up on a number of projects
around the house and utilize my computer. Thanks to Honeywell for all the computer training I was required to take.

I’m sorry to inform you that my brother Raymond O’Connell, class of ’59 is deceased. He died in June of 2001 after a long
illness. We all loved him and really miss him.

Raymond and Betty’s children are doing well and are spread over the map.

Timothy is married with two children and living in Walton, KY.

Erin is married and living in Islip, LI, NY.

Mary is married with one child and living in Palm Coast, FL.

Sean is married with one child and living in Miller Place, LI, NY.

Now that I’ve found you guys, I plan to keep in touch.

The 50th Reunion sounds interesting and Christina and I will plan to go.

Sincerely,

Tom O’Connell

Dear Bob and Fellow Classmates:

We're sure glad to hear that we've been included in the reunion of the classes of the 50's, since we were surely one of them (the last, in fact). Thanks to Cynthia for volunteering to help. If there's anything we can do to help Cynthia, please let us know. We do plan to attend.

We are both enjoying our retirement in South Florida, land of sunshine and tropical breezes. We are both working part time, Eddie as a Chiropractic Physicians Assistant for one of his former students, and Judy as a Court Advocate for abused and neglected children. Judy's children were both married in July: her elder son, David, on July 10th and her younger son, Josh, on July 30th. Our own Max provided car service to our venerable older guests who would otherwise have been unable to get there. (By the way, if you ever need a car service, Max's is the best!) Now, all of our children are married and we're looking forward to the
grandchildren.

Hope to see you all at the 2007 reunion in Las Vegas!

Love to all,

Bob,

We are moving up to the York area, to help family out. Not entirely crazy, as will be "snow -- birds ," come winter and head for the keys. I think it is very interesting that now the other classes will let us come to the reunion in Las Vegas. We are planning on going, as Bill is from class of ` 57 ... Let me know if you hear of anyone from our class, that will be attending.  Are we going to schedule anything during that time, just for the `59 alumni?

I received the following request a while ago:

Hi-

My name is Reed Rickman.  I grew up in Levittown & Wantagh down the block (Wildflower Lane) from my cousin Fred Meyer.  I was only about 11 or 12 when he died and can only remember the terrible tragedy of the event.  I've been attempting to find out any information about my cousin Fred.  I think he would have graduated from Levittown Memorial in 1959, however he died in March of that year.  Does anyone remember him?  Any leads to that period of time would be very interesting to our family.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks in advance,
Reed Rickman
reedrickman@aol.com

My reply:

I do remember Fred and I was shocked (as we all were) when he died. Our yearbook was dedicated to him that year. If you want more details on this, please let me know.

Rick would appreciate any recollections about Fred from his classmates.

Here's some information passed to us by Cathy ( Purcell ) O'MacK

I have an interesting article that was found in the local Pennysaver.
It's about (our classmate), Grace Califano:

George & Grace Califano-Schaub, Long Island artists, photographers, teachers & authors, are showcasing their
photographs and ink prints in a joint exhibit at the Huntington Public Library's Art Gallery, 338 Main Street. An artist
reception is planned for Feb 5th from 2-4 p.m.

George is an author, teacher & writer. He is on the faculty of the New School for Social Research in NYC and teaches
workshops around the country & overseas. He is the author of more than a dozen books on photography & is the
editorial director of "Shutterbug" magazine.

Grace Califano, an artist, photographer, writer & teacher is on the faculty of the Photography Department at the New
School. Her work has been exhibited locally & nationally in galleries & museums & has been featured in books &
national publication. She is the co-author of the Marshall's Handcoloring Guide & Gallery. In this exhibit, she shows
handcolored silver photographs.

The site is absolutely fabulous. You have put a lot of effort in it. To scroll down all the names certainly brings back a lot of memories. I really enjoyed the pictures from the 40th reunion. I would have been there had I known. That's another story in itself and concerns Miss Curtain. I did not know about her until I joined classmates and then was stunned. I had her for 12th grade English and adored her as did so many others. Your dedicating the site to her is wonderful. You have a lot of class.

As a further update, following a year a SUATI @ Farmingdale where I played a little football and spent my afternoons at the Arrow imbibing in liquid refreshment I decided my life needed a sense of direction. I joined the United States Marine Corps and they certainly accomplished that. Once a Marine always a Marine rings true. While stationed in Memphis I met a charming southern girl and we have been married for 42 years. Three children, Six grandchildren with #7 due next month. Now retired and enjoying life immensely. Count on me in 2009 also. Or sooner if possible.

Take care and Semper Fi. John

Hello!
My name is Tom Trayer. I was a biology and physics teacher at Levittown Memorial H.S in the early 50's when I transferred to the Division Avenue Jr. Sr. H.S as chairman of the Science Department. I became Assistant Principal for curriculum for one year to accept a position as Jr. H.S Principal in neighboring Plainedge where I served for many years in that post as well as HS Principal and Assistant Superintendent. I left for this new post in 1957. The reason I am writing is that I recently came accross a list of "old time" faculty members at LTMHS. This list came to me from Caryl Milar Harvey, School Nurse Teacher via Virginia Holmes also a school nurse teacher. The list carried the names of two former Levittown faculty members who had retired to the same town where I now reside. Both of these men are deceased and I am hoping that you can pass on this information to the person or the office where such records are maintained. The two men were Bob Noble and Russ Leary. Bob Noble's wife has also passed away, but Russ Leary's widow, Dorothy, still lives here in Palm Coast at 23 Hembury Lane, Palm Coast Florida, 32137. Bob Noble's son William, now the Chairman of the Flagler Palm Coast H.S. and his wife Fran, also a teacher in the Flagler County School District, live at 1502 S. Flagler Avenue, Flagler Beach, Fl 32136.

Bob
Got married in Vegas last year (10/24/02) -
pictures here - still retired.  My new wife is British (age 48) & she went to England last night to visit her parents for 10 days - her sister was here for 10 days. We met Labor Day 1999, went out for 3 years & decided to get married - she's a dog trainer for domestic dogs, no kids - the wedding in Las Vegas was a blast (I attached a few shots - Elvis was a surprise guest from my wife - he was great) - we had 22 guests from as far away as New Zealand & England - most of my close family came - my son was best man - anyway, things have settled down now for at least 10 days.

Are we actually going for a 45th reunion?

Bob,
I received a surprise phone call, today, from Mark Ramee.  We had a terrific conversation and 40 years just melted away.  He told me that the last he knew, Marty Weitzman was an Economics professor at Harvard. I don't know if this lead was ever checked out.  Also, Mark didn't know about the hotel change for the reunion. He's
not on the internet. I gave him the correct information since he plans to attend. I'll be there also.

What's the latest count of class of '59 attendees for the reunion?

Hi Sue,

This reunion thing gets more incredible all the time. Sunday morning I was on the phone with Tina (Bloom) May and ended up making arrangements to see her and her husband Bernie in Las Vegas in mid August. My daughter lives there now and the timing was right for a change. Every time we tried this before, we were usually off by a couple of weeks and didn't connect.

Also, Barbara (Mohr) Martinez came down from Palmdale to see us Sunday afternoon. She brought one of her daughters and grand-daughter. We had a wonderful visit and brought each other up to date on what became of us over the years. The memories just kept coming. Its funny, she arrived in California one month after I came here. We lived within several miles of each other. Also, she worked for the California Air National Guard which I almost joined. Instead I went into the Army Reserve. I made sure that she left with a xeroxed copy of our year book and we promised each other to stay in touch. I am trying to talk her into coming to NY for the reunion next year.

I just had some more e-mail from Barbara and we are going to get together in Vegas in August along with Tina. I feel like I'm running my own west coast LMHS connection out here. Barbara sends regards too.

I talked to Howard Herman last week and I'm trying to talk him into coming to NY for the reunion next summer. Nothing definite yet. Anyway, take care and regards to everyone.

Send my best to everyone. You people are doing a fantastic job keeping this thing going and locating the lost alumni.

Hey Sue

I am really psyched about this reunion in 99! Saving my pennies...lol. Boy a lot of our class are still on the island.

We moved to Tucson 3 years ago after my husband retired as a printer from the NY Post newspaper. We came out here because one of my brothers lived here after researching many retirement places. Want to eat your heart out? Try this...house has 3 bedrms, 2 baths, 1440 sq. ft on 128 by 85 lot...bought for 58,000.00 and our taxes per year are...get the barf bag ready....300.00! Is it no wonder why we love it here?  It was 105 today but 18% humidity. We can live with that. We live in the Tucson Mountains surrounded by national forest, about 3000 ft up in the foothills. Plenty of deer and coyotes, road runners and javelina (big black ugly smelly tusked mountain wild pigs). From my kitchen window I can see mountains that are 100 miles away with snow on top in winter. Yes it's nice here...sipping margaritas in the jacuzzi while seeing the snow on mountains...the best of all worlds...especially after 3margaritas!

Well I am contacting other classmates who live in Az. and hope to get together with them prior to reunion. I love our web site. Keep up the good work. Talk soon. PS any classmate who comes to Tucson has a place to stay with us..as we say here Mi Casa Su Casa!

Subject: Hello from Poznan Poland
Dear Sue,

Greetigs again from the Stone family. Interesting, I just heard from Pat Halloran Ganey. I told her that Andrea and I will be in Levittown for 3 days in August. If you thought it would work and a few people would be interested in getting together for one evening, we would. On Monday night the 24th of August after I have dinner with my mom we would be able to get together with whoever for tea & coffee at some diner in the area. Do you think their would be any interest in something like that? If not we will just drop it. But if a few want to we would love it. Will you feel around at that and let me know. I must go back to Poland on the 27th and we may not be able to get back for a couple of years. Although if the reunion is at the end of July in '99 I may be able to make it. We are very excited to be in contact. I am unable to get into Internet at this time but am trying to up grade my computer so I can. Well it is good night time in Eastern Europe. Hope to see you in
August.

Dear Sue

It was very exciting to recieve your e-mail the other day. It sure has been many years since I have heard from anyone of the old Levittown crowd. I can tell you that it is possible I would love to come next year. But seeing that it will take place in July will make it very unlikely. July is summer camp season here and I am involved in a ministry that brings together youth from many former USSR countries, and brings them here to Poznan for 2 weeks. Like this year we will have 25-30 from Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, Russia, USA and England along with some of the Polish youth. We find the finances to help them come and I have visited most of there home churches and colleges. I am waiting for clearence from the Yugoslavian embassy in to go there in May to line up some youth for 99. So depending on the date of the reunion, if it is at our camp time, I will not be there for sure.
Then I will depend on you to greet everyone for me, if you would be so kind.

Little of my personal life in brief. My wife Andrea is from Elmont on the Island, and I met her 40 years ago at Jonas beach. We just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. We have 3 children, Dwight jr is 29 and living in North Carolina. Jean is 26 and lives in North Carolina. And Zechariah is 16 and is here with us going to a Polish high school. We live in a 3rd floor apt overlooking Poznan's center about 4 miles out. Poznan is the 5 th city of Poland, and is a financial center. We are half way between Berlin and Warsaw. We enjoy going to Berlin from time to time and looking over a city filled with history. I am about to fly to Dneipropetrovsk, Ukraine and will then travel to Zaporizhzhya Bible college and spent time with students there who came to Poland last July. So you can see that all my trips are not so glamorous.

Well I hope I didn't talk to much. I am really thankful you took the time to write. Please do write again and ask whatever you would like to know. Also please fill me in on your life. Thank you so, may the Lord grant you 2 Thessalonians 3:16 bye for now.

What a surprise when I went to read my e-mail and there was a message from LMHS.  I am planning to go to the reunion & will work on Fran Fanelli.  She didn't go to the last one (neither did I ). Will send some OLD photos after I get my taxes done.

Hi Sue:

The web page looks great. Hank Neimark and I have been in voice contact and spent an hour on the phone catching up on old times. He gets out here to the L.A. area quite often and we're looking forward to getting together. Let's see what else happens as a result of our web page. Pass on the "well done" to Bob please. By the way, Vera (my wife) and I are planning on coming in for this next reunion.

Best regards... Ed Horowitz

This is one super web site although I am getting a bit of a disconnect ...modern technology and the fifties. By the way, who are all of those old people in the pictures?

After over almost thity years of toiling in the thankless Advertising Agency business. I've taken off into a new career working with AT&T to bring the magic of networking communications to all of our lives. I'm not sure if this is what I really want to do when I grow up but it's okay for a while.

Will scan in some photos a send them for posting...one of these days.

By the way, a little history: After LMHS headed off to Hofstra with the likes of Jim Dugan, John Pinna, Bob Eldi et. al. Did my ROTC bit and spent the early sixties as a Lieutenant in charge of a tank platoon in Germany. Made the world safe for beer!

Stayed in Europe after the Army until I ran out of money and figured I was suposed to get a job, wife, two kids, dog, station wagon...in other words (as Zorba the Greek said "the full catastrophy") Went to work in advertising where I met my wife (ten great married years...unfortunately the marriage lasted eighteen). Worked in marketing at Lever Bros., and later ran advertising for Cunard Line, next move was to McCann-Erickson advertising where I worked on, at one time or another, Lufthansa (the Red Baron), New York Times, Martini & Rossi, Black & Decker, Anacin, and my all time favorite..Preparation H (good experience when you work with so many pains in the ass).

On the home front...the Westchester suburbs were going at a roaring pace...two kids (both now out of college...one a journalist living in Moscow) bored wife with career goals and it all came tumbling down. A few years later, came my turn at black Friday in the ad world and I was finally free!!! Worked freelnace for a while and decided there had to be something better and there is.

Of all the names listed in your correspondence, none mean so much to me as the teachers. As I look back, it is absolutely amazing to recall the impact these people had on my life..Bill Hawkey who told me I was a pretty good writer, Bill Foster the first teacher to cast a cynical eye on the history we took as gospel, Mr. Cavanuagh who started a fashion trend with his tab collar shirts, Mr. Braunhut who brought Shakespeare to life for me (remember Romeo & Juliet and West Side Story). And finally, I'll never forget Ma Curtin. At the twentieth reunion I remember her telling me about our first year at LMHS (she taught us in seventh grade). I was shocked to hear from her that that was her first job out of college and she was just twenty one years old. Seems like such a kid now.

Write soon

Email From Hank Neimark - 3/4/98

Bob and Sue--
Just spent some time checking out the LMHS 59 web site after receiving the mailing about the 40th reuinion. I came to LMHS when the family moved to L'town in my junior year. It was a tough move because I had left close friends and at the age of 16 making new ones was difficult--but I did eventually find some close friends and your directory brought up memories of people I'd almost forgotten about.

Would it be possible to scan in the senior class photo section from the year book? I misplaced mine long ago. It would certainly help me match faces with names.

Thanks

Hank Neimark

PS
I'll get you the names and addresses for Freddie Grafstein (Dix Hills L.I) and Larrie Rockmacher (Mt. Kisco NY)

Dear Bob,

What a surprise to find the new web site for our class! It will be great to find out about people we know. We have been in Key West since the begining of Nov. [on the boat]. Talking about going to Cuba before we head for the Bahamas. Should be back in Wilmington in May. Thanks again for your effort.
